Blepharoplasty – A FRESH LOOK THANKS TO EYELID LIFT

A bright, fresh look is considered a sign of youth and vitality. However, excess skin and droopy upper eyelids ("drooping eyelids") can quickly make the face appear tired or older. Upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a gentle procedure that can permanently improve this condition.

Droopy eyelids and sagging upper eyelids are a common aesthetic and functional problem that affects many people from middle age onward. The result: You look tired, worn out, or older than you feel. In some cases, the drooping eyelid can even limit your field of vision.

With an upper eyelid correction (blepharoplasty), we can restore the natural shape of your eyelid and give your eyes a new freshness and openness.

What is a blepharoplasty?

A blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure in which excess skin, loose muscle tissue, and possibly fatty tissue are removed from the upper eyelid area. The goal is to restore the natural contour of the upper eyelid, rejuvenate the face, and, if necessary, eliminate functional limitations.

Causes of drooping and sagging eyelids

As we age, our skin loses elasticity and tone. Additionally, a genetic predisposition can cause the eyelid skin to droop earlier and more severely. External factors such as sun exposure, smoking, or stress also accelerate this process.

In some cases, the drooping becomes so pronounced that those affected not only suffer from aesthetic impairments but also experience functional impairments—for example, impaired vision or persistent fatigue of the eye muscles.

When is an upper eyelid lift useful?

With age, skin loses elasticity. Many people experience drooping upper eyelids. These can not only be cosmetically unsightly, but also limit your field of vision and lead to a feeling of heaviness above the eyes. An upper eyelid surgery is recommended if:

  • Your eyelid shape makes you feel tired or older.
  • Your vision is impaired by drooping eyelids.
  • You desire a fresh, open appearance.

Comprehensive Consultation

During a personal consultation, we take time to discuss your wishes and medical history. Together, we analyze your eyelid area and create a customized treatment plan.

The Procedure

Upper eyelid surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. The incision is made in the natural eyelid crease, so subsequent scars are virtually invisible.

Depending on the findings, the following will be done:

  • Excess skin removed
  • Excess fatty tissue reduced
  • Slackened muscle tissue tightened

The surgery usually takes about an hour.

The Healing Phase

Immediately after the procedure, you should cool your eyes to minimize swelling. The fine stitches will be removed after just a few days. Minor bruising and swelling will subside within 1 to 2 weeks.

You can usually return to social activities after about 7 to 10 days.
