RHINOPLASTY IN HAMBURG

Rhinoplasty involves a series of surgical procedures designed to change the shape, size and function of the nose.

Usually these are cosmetic operations, but medical problems can also be solved with a rhinoplasty. For example, I always treat the nasal septum, nasal conchae and, if necessary, the sinuses of our patients as part of a rhinoplasty. My aim is not only to improve aesthetics but also to restore or optimise the function of the nose.

As the largest  practice for rhinoplasty in Hamburg, I am specialised in rhinoplasty and work with the most modern and gentle procedures. Natural and non-operated-looking results are my goal.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries. The desire for an aesthetic change is just one factor that leads patients to search for a competent rhinoplasty surgeon. A nose job is much more than changing small or large external blemishes.

The goal of a rhinoplasty is always to improve or at least maintain the function of the nose. Often the patients themselves do not know how restricted their nasal breathing is because they have gotten used to it over the years.

In addition to the external rhinoplasty, a competent nose surgeon will always keep an eye on the function of the nose (nasal breathing, smelling, warming and moistening).

Dr. Wilke will be happy to advise you in the practice in Hamburg about the options for rhinoplasty.

Things worth knowing about Rhinoplasty by Dr. Wilke in Hamburg

Not all nose jobs are the same - countless techniques have been described since the first nose job.

Modern nose surgery is both gentle on the tissue and improves function and leads to a stable end result. The basic structure of the nose should always be preserved or restored and at the same time the tissue of the nose should be treated as gently as possible (so-called preservation rhinoplasty).

  • Dr. Wilke operates using the most modern surgical techniques.
  • Precision through ultrasonic scalpel
  • Without nasal packing
  • Natural results through particularly gentle methods
  • Dorsal preservation

Open/ Closed Rhinoplasty

Whether rhinoplasty is performed closed or open has less to do with fundamentally different surgical techniques, but rather simply the access to the nose. The main difference is a small, approximately 3 mm incision on the nasal bridge, which is carried out using the so-called open approach. The remaining incisions inside the nose hardly differ between the closed and open access to the nose. A good nose surgeon will always choose the most gentle but also the safest approach through which the individual nose correction can best be carried out.

In Hamburg I prefer the open approach when it comes to pronounced asymmetries and misalignments, especially of the tip of the nose. A part of my work consists of correcting the nose of patients who have had previous surgery elsewhere. Here, too, I usually perform the nose job via an open approach. For smaller external corrections and functional rhinoplasty, the closed approach is usually sufficient.

Preservation Rhinoplasty

Surgical techniques used in rhinoplasty are much more important than access to the nose. Many old techniques, which are unfortunately still very common, often lead to a weakening of the tissue with possible impairment of nasal breathing and unwanted changes to the nose after nose surgery (saddle nose, inverted V deformity). And even years after the operation.

In my practice in Hamburg I only use structure-preserving and tissue-preserving techniques. A nose can often be corrected without opening the bridge of the nose - the natural bridge of the nose is then simply lowered. The so-called push down or let down is achieved by mobilizing the bony part of the nose in one piece. The bridge of the nose can then be brought towards the face until the desired bridge of the nose profile is achieved. The mobilization of the nasal bone can be carried out very precisely with ultrasound using piezo technology.

If the normal anatomy is no longer present due to an accident or previous operation, I rebuild it, for example by reshaping the body's own cartilage so that the nose can be transformed into the desired shape. Stability and therefore a good long-term result are guaranteed.

I have focused my surgical activity on the treatment of the nose from the very beginning of my career and I am not only an expert in cosmetic rhinoplasty, but also in function-improving operations of the nose and paranasal sinuses.

I also have the ability to reconstruct noses that have been severely damaged by accidents or tumors. I enthusiastically participate in regular training courses and I am familiar with all the techniques of modern nasal surgery.

I will always put together the best individual surgical plan for you from a variety of techniques: Nose corrections with closed or open approach; structure-preserving and nose bridge-preserving techniques (push down and let down as part of so-called preservation rhinoplasty).

Frequently asked questions about Rhinoplasty

  • Who is suitable for a rhinoplasty?

In principle, a rhinoplasty can be performed whenever an improvement to the nose is desired for aesthetic or functional reasons.

  • Which deformities can be corrected?

Almost any deformity can be corrected with rhinoplasty. The most common types of nose surgery are humped noses, crooked noses, and noses that are too large.

  • How long does the procedure take?

A rhinoplasty usually takes between 2-3 hours.

  • What is the difference between an open and a closed rhinoplasty?

The difference is a small, approximately 3 mm incision on the nasal bridge, which is usually no longer visible after a few weeks.

  • Is rhinoplasty painful?

Most of our patients in Hamburg are surprised at how painless rhinoplasty is. Pain medication is usually not necessary the day after surgery.

  • Are packings or splints used?

Due to our gentle surgical techniques, we can avoid packings and splints in the nose.

  • What are the risks of rhinoplasty?

Thanks to an experienced team and gentle surgical techniques, the risks of rhinoplasty in Hamburg are low. Any swelling and bruising usually subside after a few weeks.

  • Can the nose deform again after surgery?

Due to the structure-preserving surgical technique, in which the nose is not weakened but partially strengthened, deformation after surgery is very rare.

  • When can the full result of rhinoplasty be seen?

The final result of rhinoplasty is usually visible after one year. However, most swelling has subsided after just a few weeks.

  • Is the nose still stable after surgery?

Immediately after surgery, the nose is not yet completely stable, so you should avoid sports and heavy lifting for the first 6 weeks after the procedure.

  • When can I return to work and exercise after the procedure?

Our patients are usually able to socialize and work again after 2 weeks. Sports, saunas, and strenuous physical activity should be avoided for 6 weeks.

  • Are the results of rhinoplasty permanent?

The use of very gentle and stabilizing surgical techniques enables a permanent result after rhinoplasty.

  • How much does a rhinoplasty cost in Hamburg?

The costs of a rhinoplasty are calculated depending on the complexity involved and start at €6.450 for a standard rhinoplasty.

  • Will the costs be covered by health insurance?

Health insurance companies cover the functional portion of a rhinoplasty, i.e., the straightening of the nasal septum.
