The paranasal sinuses, as the name suggests, are located next to the inner nose and are cavities in the facial skull lined with mucous membrane. In addition to warming, cleansing, and humidifying the air we breathe, the sinuses serve as an important resonance chamber for sound production – if the nose is blocked, the voice sounds "nasal."
Diseases of the paranasal sinuses can also spread to the nose and vice versa – there is no barrier between the nose and the paranasal sinuses.
Chronic sinus inflammation is initially treated with medication. If this therapy does not produce the desired results, the next step may be sinus surgery. The goal of this procedure is to eliminate constrictions between the nose and paranasal sinuses. In some cases, the mucous membrane lining of the paranasal sinuses is so swollen that it protrudes like fingers, forming polyps that can further narrow the nasal passage. In addition to a runny nose and loss of smell, a feeling of pressure is a typical symptom of chronic sinusitis.
I perform sinus surgery in Hamburg using minimally invasive, mucosal-sparing techniques known as functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). As a practice specializing in cosmetic rhinoplasty, I only perform sinus surgery in combination with rhinoplasty.
If the anatomy has been significantly altered by previous surgeries or if the case is particularly severe, patients are sometimes left to deal with their condition alone because no qualified surgeon can be found. My years of experience in the field of nasal and sinus surgery qualify me for this specialization. I operate exclusively using minimally invasive endoscopic instruments, using the latest technology.
The maximum possible preservation of healthy tissue is my top priority, ensuring rapid wound healing after surgery.
Please feel free to contact my practice in Hamburg for a consultation.

Great resultFirst, I received a detailed consultation in a calm atmosphere. I was able to ask all sorts of questions, which Dr. Wilke answered thoroughly and professionally. I immediately felt in good hands. I had to wait a bit for the surgery appointment, but what can I say - the wait was worth it. I am extremely satisfied with the result and can recommend Dr. Wilke to everyone.

Sinus surgery is advisable to improve restricted ventilation of the paranasal sinuses and to remove tumors (both benign and malignant).
If sinusitis has become chronic and cannot be adequately treated with medication, sinus surgery is often helpful.
As a practice specializing in cosmetic rhinoplasty, we only perform sinus surgery in combination with rhinoplasty. Sinus surgery in Hamburg is performed minimally invasively and with minimal impact on the mucous membranes using endoscopes, known as FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery). The operation is performed under general anesthesia and lasts approximately one hour. Patients can leave the clinic after just one day. The procedure is performed entirely through the nostrils, so there are no additional external scars. Overall, sinus surgery is a low-risk, low-pain procedure.
To ensure optimal conditions for the surgery, you should not take any medications such as Aspirin®, Diclofenac®, Ibuprofen®, and Voltaren® for two weeks prior to the operation. Smoking reduces blood flow to the small vessels that are important for wound healing, so we recommend stopping smoking during the healing phase. Good care of the nasal mucosa promotes healing both before and after surgery. We recommend starting nasal care with ointments and oils one week before the operation. After the operation, you can start using a nasal douche for additional cleansing.
Endoscopic minimally invasive sinus surgery in Hamburg has the advantage of minimal postoperative pain and no scarring, swelling, or bruising. Packing can often be completely dispensed with, or self-dissolving packing can be used, which barely impairs breathing.
Depending on the extent of the disease, minor surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis, meaning the patient can return home the same day. For more extensive sinus surgeries, the patient will be monitored overnight in the hospital.
After sinus surgery, the body must first recover. We therefore recommend taking a break from work for approximately 3 days. A sick note will, of course, be issued.
Our patients in Hamburg generally experience little to no pain after sinus surgery.
In experienced hands, the risks of sinus surgery are low.
Since this is a medical procedure, the costs are usually covered by health insurance.
